A spinal ligament injury can make ordinary movement feel unreliable. What a spinal ligament does
A spinal ligament is a strong band of connective tissue that helps hold the bones of the spine together. These ligaments guide motion, limit excessive movement, and provide passive stability so the spine can bend and rotate without losing control. They work alongside muscles, joints, tendons, and discs, which is why back pain rarely comes from only one structure.
Several ligaments support the spine from top to bottom. Some run along the front or back of the vertebrae, while others connect portions of the spinal arch. Each has a different role, but together they help maintain alignment and protect the spine from moving beyond its safe range.
